KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called an office-bearers meeting for Thursday.
This is the first NC meeting following the Gen Z protest that toppled the NC-UML-led coalition government headed by KP Sharma Oli.

The meeting, scheduled for 1 PM, is expected to discuss the agenda for the Central Committee meeting on October 12 and recent developments.
During the Gen Z protesters’ attack on September 9, both President Deuba and his spouse, former Foreign Affairs Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, were seriously injured and have been undergoing treatment for nearly a month. They have now been discharged from the hospital and are residing in Lalitpur.
Like other major parties in the country, the debate over leadership change has intensified within the NC. General Secretaries Gangan Thapa and Biswa Prakash Sharma have strongly demanded that Deuba pave the way for new leadership.
In the meantime, several general convention delegates have launched a signature campaign for a special general convention. In this context, everyone is eagerly waiting to see how Deuba will respond to the situation.
As per the party’s statute, the general convention is scheduled to be held in December. However, amid mounting pressure for the special general convention, Deuba is reportedly expected to announce one.
