However, Industries Association Morang (IAM) has claimed that the process to increase salaries has been initiated in coordination with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Ministry of Industry (MoI).
"A tripartite negotiation has begun on Thursday in Kathmandu among representatives of FNCCI, MoI and five labor unions to resolve the issue of salary of workers," said Dinesh Golchha, president of IAM.
The agitating labor unions had handed over a memorandum to the Chief District Officer of Morang district giving seven-day ultimatum to resolve the problem.
"We are compelled to announce protests from Sunday as the employers paid no attention to our demands even after the submission of memorandum," Gopal Sharma, the president of Trade Union Congress (Independent), told a press conference in Biratnagar. The protests including demonstration, putting up black banners in factories and chanting slogans to press their demands.
Workers have demanded that their monthly salary be increased to Rs 10,000 or daily wage be fixed at Rs 400.
