Envoys enquire EC about polls preparations

KATHMANDU, April 9: The heads of diplomatic missions and international development partners in Kathmandu have enquired top officials of the Election Commission (EC) about the preparations for Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.



Ambassadors of the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK) and European Union (EU), among others, held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Uprety and commissioners Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, Ram Bhakta PB Thakur and Ila Sharma on Tuesday at the EC´s central office. According to EC officials, EU ambassador enquired about EC´s initiatives to include marginalized and vulnerable groups in the election while the US envoy enquired about the EC´s outreach to voters.



Similarly, the UK envoy enquired about security plans for CA election.



In response, Uprety said the EC has been working to hold free and fair election. He also stated that the constitution body has been working to update voter list in coordination with the home ministry.
