E-library in Baglung school

BINHU, Baglung, Oct 28: Karlim Lower Secondary School has started e-library facility in the school. This is the first ever e-library in the district.



“I really liked the e-library as I can find the book of my choice on the computer,” said Sudan Subedi, an eighth grader in the school.



The school said it started the e-library in its efforts to introduce time-relevant teaching methods.[break]



The e-library has over 4,000 e-books that can be read in 10 computers of the school. According to Yam Kumari Kandel, a fifth grader, learning has become easier with the introduction of the e-library. “Besides textbooks, the electronic library has other books too,” said Kandel.



School principal Agandhar Kandel informed that the e-library was set up with financial assistance from Non Resident Nepali Liaison Committee Karlim Japan and technical assistance from Nepal Library Foundation. “This is the first e-library in the district. We have installed 4,000 e-books in 10 computers of the school,” said Kandel. According to Chairman of the Liaison Committee Rishiram Kandel, the local youths working in Japan had donated Rs 500,000 for the e-library.



Karlim Japan Society has so far donated over 1.3 million rupees to introduce computer-based learning system in the school. The society has also set up a permanent fund of Rs 500,000 for computer education.



The president of NRN Association, Jiba Lamichhane, inaugurated the e-library on Sunday. Around 200 students have enrolled in the school. The books in the e-library include novels by prominent Nepali novelists like BP Koirala, children´s literature, comics and essays published by Sajha Publication, among others.



Under-secretary at the District Education Office, Kusmaraj Upadhyaya said that the school has set an example in the district. “The school is the first to introduce e-library in the district,” Upadhyaya said.
