Acharya, who is also one of the producers of the film, accepted the award at the Awards Presentation and Closing Party of the festival held late Saturday night in New York. He took to Facebook to express his happiness and thanked the entire cast and crew.Along with Acharya, actor Arpan Thapa and co-producer Uttam KC had also attended the film festival.
Directed by Dr Naresh Kumar KC, 'Dying Candle' deals with the love between siblings and is set in Nepal's Himalayas. While the film was also nominated in the Best Feature Narrative category, actor Srijana Subba had been nominated for the Best Actress in a Feature award.
'Dying Candle' was first premiered at the Cinema Verde Film Festival in Florida, USA on February 14 this year. Encouraged by the positive reviews, the film was then screened amidst professors and students at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Cinematic Arts on March 3.
The film is scheduled to release in Nepal sometime in June/July this year.
Another Nepali film 'Kamaro (Slave)' directed by Arun Deo Joshi, was also screened at QWFF. The 24-minute film had been nominated in two categories, viz. Best Short Narrative, and Best Short Narrative Director.
Sorted from over 500 submissions from all over the world, 143 films from 23 countries including Argentina, Japan, Finland, Germany, Spain and Cuba, made it to the final screenings. The films were divided into different categories including Feature Narrative, Short Narrative, Documentary, LGBTQ, Animation, and Family Friendly.
