KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Medical entrepreneur and activist Durga Prasai has registered a new political party at the Election Commission (EC), appointing Madhav Kalpit—his former personal secretary—as the party chair.
Kalpit confirmed to Republica that he completed all registration procedures, adding that although he holds the position of chairperson, Prasai will remain the party’s central figure as patron. Kalpit, along with other founding members, appeared at the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday morning for verification.
Prasai, who recently announced a nationwide protest beginning on November 23, has been invited by the government for talks regarding his 27-point list of demands. According to Kalpit, the newly registered party will work alongside Prasai’s ongoing “Citizen Rescue Campaign,” with plans to prepare for future elections.

The party has also finalized its key leadership positions. Ishwari Prasad Bhattarai and Devi Prasad Sangraula have been appointed vice-chairs, while Prem Kumar Thamsuhang will serve as general secretary. Bishnu Bohora Chhetri has been named deputy general secretary, Sushma Regmi Rijal is the treasurer and Prem Thapa Magar serves as the party spokesperson.
The party’s leadership includes Madhav Prasad Khatiwada (Madhav Kalpit) as chairperson; Ishwari Prasad Bhattarai and Devi Prasad Sangraula as vice-chairpersons; Prem Kumar Thamsuhang as general secretary; Bishnu Bohora Chhetri as deputy general secretary; Sushma Regmi Rijal as treasurer; and Prem Thapa Magar as spokesperson.
Central committee members include Ram Kumar Karki, Prabin Lama, Shaktiraj Shahi, Diwakar Man Singh Basnet, Luja Rai, Renuka Devi Kharel, Tulsakumari Khatri, Rajendra Bahadur Damai, Bijay Thapa, Tejendra Rayamajhi, Hardeo Mahato, Balbahadur Tamang, Nabaraj Dulal, Danumaya Thapa, Renu Hamal Shahi, Dinesh Pakhrin, Raju Shrestha, Pushparaj Bhandari, Surendra Kumar Karki, Kamala Maya Chhetri.
