Organizing a press conference at Reporter"s Club in the capital on Wedenesday, Sapkota said he decided to tender resignation from the post as NSU President Ranjeet Karna could neither hold NSU convention nor maintain transparency of the NSU"s income and expenditure. He alleged that the NSU ad hoc committee led by Karna had failed to carry out the responsibilities assigned to it by the party president.[break]
Sapkota said that he will continue to work for the cause of NSU even after his resignation. “It is better to stay outside the organization and contribute toward the expansion and reform in the students" union than to be a part of the committee led by an ineffective leadership,” he said, justifying his resignation.
Party President Sushil Koirala had decided to form an ad hoc committee of NSU under Karna in March last year with a mandate to hold its general convention within six months. “The NSU committee has failed to announce any decision to that end yet even 16 months after its formation,” he alleged.
Sapkota claimed that 41 other central members, out of total 121 members in the ad hoc committee, are also disenchanted with the NSU leadership and that they are also mulling to tender resignation. All the dissatisfied NSU members are miffed at Karna"s leadership, his actions toward strengthening the NSU organization and his role in the Free Students" Union (FSU) elections.
