“We will enforce a nationwide shutdown and picket government offices throughout the country. We will continue to obstruct regular activities of the government until our demands are met,” said Sagar Limbu, in-charge of DFPLA informing that his organization would first introduce informal programs. SC had scrapped the government´s decision on providing cash package to the discharged combatants. “We protest the Supreme Court´s decision,” added Limbu. The Baburam Bhattarai-led coalition government had decided to provide Rs 200,000 to each of 4,008 disqualified combatants. The move had also faced opposition from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.
Former Prime Minister Bhattarai and his office, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Peace and Re-construction had been made defendants in the writ petition filed at the apex court.
Last year, the disqualified combatants had staged sit-in at the UCPN (Maoist) head office for 40 days. They had staged a 30-day protest at the same venue in 2011.
