The International Cricket Council (ICC) will organize the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers in Malaysia from October 14-23. The top two teams from the Qualifiers featuring six teams, including Nepal, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and USA will qualify for the U-19 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh next year.Though the CAN was earlier planning to organize the national tournament from September 21, the U-19 Qualifiers schedule compelled the cricket governing body to host the event a week earlier than planned.
The CAN has also officially informed the regional cricket development committee to organize the regional selection tournaments for the national tournament before September 6. However, Nepali U-19 team, which is in the closed camp training in Kathmandu, is scheduled to play the ACC U-19 Premier League slated for August 26 to September 4 in Malaysia.
The players selected for the Premier League are likely to miss the regional selection tournaments. Nevertheless, CAN has decided to include the national players missing the regional tournaments in the national tournament.
Uttam Karmacharya, acting general secretary of CAN, said if the players miss the regional selection event, they will be given a chance in the national tournament.
"We will officially inform all the regional committee to include the players in the squad for the national tournament," said Karmacharya.
