KATHMANDU, June 12: Over 150 locals, who were rendered homeless after massive landslides on Wednesday, have been left high and dry in western parts of Taplejung.

Landslide-hit-locals are forced to live in miserable conditions in lack of shelter and food items. The local administration has failed to airlift relief materials to the affected areas from the district headquarters due to bad weather.Dambar Dhwaj Tumbahamphe, lawmaker representing constituency 2 of the district, informed that Liwang VDC is the hardest hit by the landslide.

According to him, over a hundred locals from ward number one and two of Liwang are facing acute shortage of drinking water and food.

Meanwhile, CDO Damaru Prasad Niraula admitted the local administration's failure in delivering emergency relief support to the affected areas. "We failed to supply relief materials to the landslide hit areas due to incessant rainfall," he said.

As per the preliminary data collected by the police, the landslides have swept 44 houses and displaced around 190 locals.

The data of displaced locals may increase as we continue to receive the details, according to DSP Shanti Raj Koirala.

Meanwhile, the DDRC, through their meeting held on Friday, decided to relocate six landslide-hit VDCs to safer locations.
