After Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu sought few days to complete its preliminary investigation, the Kathmandu District Administration Office allowed the police to keep Lama three additional days in custody.Police on Sunday had arrested Lama, who is a UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker and an ex-minister, after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) seized 14 unused bullets and some shrapnel from his bank locker in the course of an investigation into his property.
"We have yet to document his statements and start probe into few suspicious persons," SSP Bikram Singh Thapa, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said.
The anti-graft body, which is looking into the sources of Lama's property, had handed Lama over to police for further investigations into his possession of ammunitions. During the investigation, Lama has stated that the bullets belong to one of his long time friends based in India but was unable to give details about the long time friend, according to police.
Police also to put him through a polygraph test but Lama rejected the proposition outright citing some health issues. Despite a series of investigations, Police have yet to establish the motive behind hiding the bullets in the bank locker.
