BANEPA, June 19: District Administration Office (DAO), Kavre has begun investigation into irregularities while distributing the relief amount of Rs 15,000 offered by the government to quake victims.

Many locals, filing complaints at the DAO, claimed that the relief amounts which was meant only for those whose houses were destroyed in the quake, have been given away even to those having their houses intact, according to Arjun Kumar Sharma, spokesperson at the DAO, who is also the assistant district administration officer.

The DAO has already distributed Rs 322.5 million among 21,504 households of 22 VDCs as of Thursday.

The complaints include names of those who received the relief amounts wrongly in Bhumlatar, Chandeynimandal, and Patlekhet VDCs.

The DAO said they have received more complaints through phones than in writing. Following the complaints, 13 locals of Dusheni Shivalaya VDC have returned a total of Rs 195,000.

The complaints named more than 40 locals of Dusheni Shivalaya VDC who received the amounts even though their houses suffered no damage.

In most complaints, it has been pointed out that families were pretending to be living apart or submitting fake reports about the condition of their houses to claim the amounts.

Out of total 76 complaints received, the DAO has already started investigation into 45.

It has been learnt that local political parties pressured the DAO to identify all households in their VDCs as quake-damaged and distribute the relief amount to all of them.
