Curfew for second consecutive day in Surkhet

SURKHET, Aug 11: Local administration in Surkhet has given continuity to the curfew order in Birendranagar Valley areas for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as protestors continued violent activities.

The local administration announced curfew from 6 pm to 9 pm after demonstrators broke through prohibited areas, said administrative officer at the district administration, Hit Prasad Paudel.The administration had declared areas where government offices and the residence of Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka are situated as prohibited zones. But protestors entered the areas at 6 pm.

The protestors on Monday had vandalized and set government buildings, Khadka's residence and local party offices of major political parties on fire.

Officials said at least five people sustained bullet injuries during the protests on Tuesday. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical. Also, 10 police personnel were injured as protestors stoned them. Two locals died in police firing in the same area on Monday.
