"My salary is not enough to meet my monthly expenses, how can donate them Rs 20,000?," a government employee told Republica showing a letter from the Maoist party. According to him, not only the Maoists but other political parties are also demanding donations for the elections. Some businessmen and employees have registered compalint with the chief district officer Bhabishwar Pande regarding the "donation campaign".

"Such campaign is illegal so we are trying to trace those involved in the campaign. But we have yet to identify them," said Pande.

The CPN-Maoist leaders claimed that the "donation campaign" has bearing on the current political situation and insisted that it is totally a political campaign.

According to Sher Bahadur KC, the chief of publicity and publication department of CPN-Maoist Rukum district chapter, his party launched the campaign to safeguard national sovereignty and to thward the ´anti-national´ CA polls.

"The Maoist party is conducting trainings to obstruct the CA polls. We need donations to mobilize people against the elections and to run the party. The campaign has been launched for people´s cause so it is wrong to call it terror," said KC adding all parties rely on donations. According to him, his party will take action against all those involved in corruption.

"We will take ´people´s action´ but the nature of action will be determined by the intensity of corruption," added KC.
