KATHMANDU, June 12: Cadres of the Communist Party of Nepal (Majority) smeared black ink on High Court Judge Dr Khusi Ram Tharu in Birgunj on Thursday, protesting his bench’s decision to acquit former minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Mohammad Aftab Alam.
While carrying out the act, the cadres shouted slogans such as, “Long live CPN (Majority)! This is action against those who misuse taxpayers’ money and deliver verdicts against the people. Our party is taking action against corruption across Nepal in this way.”

Judge Tharu was part of the division bench that recently acquitted former lawmaker Alam, who had been imprisoned in connection with a high-profile multiple murder case. The CPN (Majority) cadres claimed that the ink attack was a response to what they called an “anti-people verdict.”
