“They often beat me saying I did not do the household works properly,” said Tara Banstola, who worked as the domestic help at the house of Ishwar Banstola, Biratnagar-7. Tara was rescued by a joint team of police and CWIN officials after a local informed them about her plight.Child violence in the districts of the eastern region is increasing despite laws forbidding the same. CWIN Help-line Biratnagar has handled 472 similar cases over the last six months. It said nearly 2000 calls regarding child violence were received over the period.
According to Prakash Paudel, mediator of CWIN Biratnagar, most of the cases of child violence, especially among child laborers, include, among others, sexual abuse, severe beating and education deprivation.
