DHARAN, Feb 12: PLA combatants on Sunday staged demonstration in the eastern region protesting the seizure of their voluntary retirement paychecks by the commanders.

The combatants from the PLA First Division in Ilam disrupted vehicular movement in Mechi zone from 12 pm to 2 pm on Sunday afternoon and warned that they would come up with stringent protests if the government did not address their demands within five days.[break]

A five-point demand forwarded by the combatants includes return of seized checks and identity cards. They have also demanded relief package for the combatants who joined the Young Communist League (YCL) before the PLA verification by the UNMIN in 2007.

If the government fails to address our demands by February 17, we will shut down all the districts in the eastern region, informed Purna Bahadur Limbu, coordinator of First Division Headquarters Struggle Committee.

“We have been put into injustice, so we are forced to launch protests against the party leaders and the government in order to draw their attention,” he uttered.

Meanwhile, the agitating Maoist combatants have demanded with the party to unveil the details of the PLA fund including income and expenditure.
