APF has decided to suspend the four officials from their duties pending further investigation and court case.
According to Deputy Superintendent of the Police Dinesh Achrya, a team of CIB arrested them from various places in Kathmandu after tip off from businessmen. [break]
The accused had collected estimated Rs 2.5 million from different businessmen in New Road. The gang under the leadership of Niraj Thapa of Gangabu used identity cards of APF and threatened businessmen with dire consequences unless they got the money, said Acharya.
The four APF officials who were arrested are head constable Gir Bahadur Pandey, assistant head constable Ram Bahadur Khatri, assistant head constable Hari Kumar Thapa and constable Khem Raj Gurung. All four worked in Guheswori Battalion of APF based in Duwakot of Bhaktapur.
The other who were part of the group are Anil Mishra and Yugal Paudel.
According to DSP Ajay Chhatkulli of the APF the four will face departmental action. Police said the accused were sent to Metropolitan Police Range Hanuman Dhoka for further investigation and face charges under the kidnapping and hostage taking act.
