Chitwan community forests get 22,000 US dollars prize

CHITWAN, July 4: Sixteen community forest groups based in Kayarkhola watershed area in Chitwan district received 22,000 US Dollars for their contributions to reduce excessive carbon emissions through forest conservation.



Earlier, community forest groups in Gorkha and Dailekh districts were also awarded for helping reduce the impacts of climate change by conserving forests. [break]



The level of carbon emission has been measured in these 16 community forests of eastern Chitwan for two years with the initiative of Community Forest Users’ Federation, ICIMOD and other organizations.



The amount will be distributed to users by conducting a public program soon.
