GORKHA, May 27: The second wave of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection has spiked in Sulikot Rural Municipality of Barpak, Gorkha. According to the locals, the deceased in the municipality had all shown symptoms of COVID-19.

Chief of Sulikot Rural Municipality, Vishnu Bhatta stated that the rural municipality alone cannot handle the situation in Barpak. “The provincial government and the federal government should send a team including doctors to Barpak immediately,” he said. According to Bhatta, the whole village has shown symptoms of COVID-19 among its residents who are in need of health assistance.

“The municipality is ready to provide the patients in the village with counseling, home check-ups, treatment, and medicines,” Bhatta said. However, the lack of manpower and resources has made it difficult to control the dire situation at the moment.

The rural municipality has provided free vehicle service for the treatment of COVID-19 patients but the people have not used the service at all. The locals have also not shown any interest when the municipality headed out to their village to conduct tests and distribute medicines.

There are about a thousand people who have shown symptoms of cough and fever in the village, Bhatta said. He has appealed for support to focus on treating the patients immediately before the number of deaths increases. So far, 12 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Barpak, Gorkha.
