KATHMANDU, Sep 6: Chief Justice of India, Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, addressing the Nepal-India Judicial Dialogue held on Friday in Kathmandu, emphasized the need for Nepal and India to move forward with collaboration in the judicial system.
Speaking at the function, organised by the Supreme Court of Nepal, Chief Justice Gavai said that the two countries have been sharing judicial experience and practices, and that it should be further strengthened in the coming days.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
Portraying the judiciary not just as an interpreter of the law but also as a protector of democracy and the constitution, he noted that he often refers to some important rulings made by Nepal as points of reference during his rulings.
Gavai is currently on an official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut. In the dialogue, he shed light on the evolving role of the judiciary and discussed recent court decisions and judicial reforms.
Additionally, in April 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Supreme Courts of India and Nepal to strengthen judicial cooperation.
