The nation-wide study, which will take place from April 4 to June 30, will cover over 4,000 households, officials at the CHD informed."We have not conducted a study at such a large scale since 1998," Giri Raj Subedi, chief of Nutrition Section at the CHD, said. He said that such a survey is needed to gather information on nutrition status among public and update government's nutrition policy.
According to Subedi, government agencies as well as national and international organizations working in the health sector are using old data that may or may not be reliable in the present context. "The new study will help us to update nutrition status, determine risk factors and change the policy to address emerging issues," he said, adding that findings from such study would also benefit other organizations.
The government agencies as well as other organizations have been using the data of National Demographic Health Survey (NDHS)-2011 report, which shows 41 percent children under five as chronically malnourished, 11 percent as wasted and 29 percent children as underweight.
