Capital spending not more than 50 percent: Minister Mahat

KATHMANDU, June 17: Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has said that there were some challenges in budget spending though resource management was not a tough job.

"The current fiscal year has almost come to an end but most of the ministries have not even spent 50 per cent of the capital expenditure which is disappointing," Dr Mahat said.At a programme jointly organized by BP Thought Academy and Society for Humanism Nepal on post-quake recovery, Minister Mahat said that the trend of failure to implement the budget should be ended from the administrative front.

Saying that the donor's meet is being organized on June 25 to raise fund for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the quake-damaged properties, the Finance Minister shared that preparations from the government side have been completed.

He also said that a high-level body for the disaster management is being formed soon.

Likewise, former finance minister Barshaman Pun said that all political parties should work together for reconstruction efforts.

Chief of the Central Department of Economics, TU, Dr Ram Prasad Gyawali, Chairman of Academy Haribol Bhattarai, vice-chairman Pushpa Parajuli and others said that reconstruction of the quake-hit structures should begin soon. RSS
