The annual software expo will feature 62 stalls of 32 different organizations, including two government agencies -- Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT). Two Indian software companies and a Bangladeshi company are also participating in the event. More than 50 percent of the stalls belong to new software companies.

Narayan Neupane, general secretary of CAN, said a workshop for e-NGO campaign will be organized on Sept 16 in association with Digital Empowerment Foundation India. The event will also feature another workshop on Ethical Hacking and Information Security in association with Eureka Management from Sept 17-19.

“Nepal holds a huge prospect in outsourcing and developing new software as we don´t require big investment or huge infrastructural base,” he added.

The event is also expected to be helpful for corporate houses and government offices to choose the right software for them.

CAN officials are expecting a total of 50,000 visitors during the four-day event.

“Since the event will focus on information sharing, we are expecting only quality visitors,” Neupane said, adding that they expect the event to become successful in providing a platform to new software developers.

Though the number of software developers in the country has increased significantly in recent years, only banks, hospitality industry and a few educational institutions are considered the potential clients for this blooming industry.

Kishor Panth, first vice president of CAN, said software could be used to help people in agriculture, farming, teaching and other purpose as well. “We are hopeful that besides promoting domestic software developers, the event will help raise awareness about the benefits of using software,” Panth added.
