The association opened registration for the event amid a function in Kathmandu on Wednesday. [break]
“Interested college students, either single or in a team, can participate in the event by logging into www.webcompetitionnepal.com,” the organizers said in a press meet organized here on Wednesday.
Registration is open till February 15.
Bimal Kumar Sharma, coordinator of the competition and founder president of CAN, said that the participants were free to choose theme for their websites. “We will evaluate the website on the basis of teamwork, design, innovation, creativity, interactiveness and efficiency,” he added.
Inaugurating the competition, Minister for Science and Technology Keshab Man Shakya said the country was yet to tap its huge ICT potentials. “Competitions like these can help encourage more people, particularly youth, to engage in the sector,” Shakya said. “As many other sectors can take benefits from ICT, I suggest the website developers to look into the commercial utility of the applications they develop.”
Speaking on the occasion, CAN President Binod Dhakal said web portals have become a key medium for providing information about any business to prospective customers. "We hope this competition will make consumers and business houses more aware and encouraged to use ICT to boost their sales and make communication effective,” he added.
The organizers said they were expecting the competition to draw participation of around 500 website developers.
“First, we will shortlist 30 participants. They will undergo special training before the top three winners are announced,” Dhakal added.
CAN has announced cash prizes and different benefits for the winners.
