KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Banke National Park (BNP) has stepped up efforts to track down a tiger involved in a fatal human attack by installing camera traps in the affected area of Sauri, Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality–1.

According to Senior Conservation Officer Birendra Prasad Kandel, five camera traps have been set up around the incident site, but the tiger has yet to be spotted. “We are monitoring the area closely with cameras, but the tiger has not appeared so far,” Kandel said, adding that the animal likely moved on after securing its prey and has not returned to the site.

The operation follows the death of 62-year-old Marichman Bhandari of Sauri, who was killed by a tiger last Saturday while grazing cattle. The incident has left local residents deeply shaken.

BNP officials believe the attack may have been accidental. Kandel suggested that the tiger may have been feeding on a cow when Bhandari came too close, prompting the animal to attack defensively to protect its prey.
