The street festival will be held on September 27 on the occasion of the 31st World Tourism Day and aims to present Thamel as a safe and must visit place for local as well as foreign tourists of all age groups. [break]
Announcing the event, TTDC President Tejendra Nath Shrestha said that Thamel, despite being one of the favorite tourist spot, has also managed to earn some bad image in the past and the street carnival hopes to spread the message that Thamel has changed a lot.
"There are good and bad things everywhere in the world. We have worked hard to make Thamel a better and safer place to be in," Shrestha told the press Monday.
According to a statement, the TTDC is setting up eight welcome gates in different places of Thamel and will inaugurate the event by lighting an 8-feet ´tourism torch´.
More than 2,570 business entities of Thamel will take part in the event with visitors getting the chance to see live pottery-making, traditional musket, and different animated characters, tattoo art and various cultural events during the carnival.
The council has said that the event this year is going to be different and will be held in a grander scale than previous years. "The event will also feature a fashion show, a food festival and a peace rally," said Shrestha.
City Center to host Teej Mela
KATHMANDU, Sept 7: NLIC City Center, Kamalpokhari, will be hosting Teej Parva Apoorva Mela to coincide with Hindu women´s festival -- Teej between September 8 and September 10.
The three-day event will include stalls catering exclusively to women offering sarees, kurtas, bags, handmade items, Rajasthani items, idols of gods and goddesses, and accessories like bangles, necklaces, precious and semi-precious stones, and silver jewelries, among others.
The mela will also have food stalls that offer a wide variety of traditional Nepali food, the organizers said in a statement issued Tuesday.
According to the statement, the event will confer ´the Best Dressed Lady´ award to recognize Teej attire, which includes red or green sarees. "The winner will win attractive gift hampers from Yasuda and food coupons from Bits n Bites Food Court," the release states.
Oriental Hotels profit Rs 51.4m
KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Oriental Hotels held its 13th annual general meeting on Monday, the company said in a statement Tuesday.
Presenting the financial statement, Oriental Hotels´ Chairman Gobinda Das Shrestha said that the company earned a profit of Rs 51.4 million in Fiscal Year 2009/10. The profit was Rs 14.1 million higher than what it earned in Fiscal Year 2008/09, it said.
According to the statement, the company has already taken steps to expand its capacity, whereby it will add 100 new rooms to accommodate more visitors during Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
Hyundai showroom in Banepa
BANEPA, Sept 7: Standard Automobile Company, a new distributor of Hyundai vehicles manufactured in South Korea and India, has opened a showroom in Banepa.
Laxmi Lal Rajbhandari, the chairman of Kavre Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ganesh Bahandur Shrestha, the chairman of Hyundai´s importer for Nepal Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt Ltd, jointly inaugurated the showroom on Tuesday.
“The showroom will facilitate us to sell Hyundai cars in Kavre and other eastern districts,” Subash Vaidhya, the director of the company said at the inauguration ceremony. Bhadgaun Automobile, a sister concern of Standard Automobile, has also started selling Hyundai cars in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, the statement further added.
The company said that it will be opening service centers in Banepa and Bhaktapur soon.
