UDAYPUR, Dec 20: A family dispute in Udaypur turned deadly early Saturday when a man was fatally attacked with a khukuri by his own elder brother while trying to protect their mother.
Police said 43-year-old Yubaraj Rai of Triyuga Municipality–1, Jogidaha, attacked his younger brother, 30-year-old Dharmaraj Rai, at around 2 AM. Dharmaraj was critically injured after being struck with a sharp weapon and was rushed to the District Hospital, Udaypur, where he died about an hour later.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Yubaraj was involved in an altercation with their mother at the time of the incident. When Dharmaraj intervened to stop the assault, Yubaraj allegedly pulled out a khukuri and attacked him multiple times. Police said the sequence of events has been corroborated by the mother’s statement.
Following the attack, Yubaraj fled the scene. Police have intensified a search operation and released three photographs of the suspect, urging the public to assist in locating him. “If anyone sees the suspect, they are requested to immediately inform Nepal Police through the emergency number 100, the District Police Office, nearby police units, the information officer or the police control room,” the police said in a notice.
