Bodies of all 23 killed in Tara Air crash recovered, to be airlifted to Pokhara

MYAGDI, Feb 25: The dead bodies of all the 23 persons killed in the Tara Air aircraft crash have been recovered on Thursday afternoon. The bodies have been kept at Dana VDC and will be taken to Pokhara through choppers later today.

The search for the dead bodies of the passengers killed in the crash at Dana VDC-2, Solighopte cliff in the district had resumed from this morning.





The search for the missing bodies which was halted due to dense fog and snowfall on Wednesday evening had resumed from early today, Myagdi Chief District Officer (CDO) Sagarmani Pathak told Republica Online.

"The weather has slightly improved. Helicopters are standby," said CDO Pathak. According to him, all bodies have been retrieved from the accident site. Preparations are underway to airlift all the bodies from Dana to Pokhara.

Currently a joint team from the Nepalese Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force is at the accident site. Locals helped the rescue team reach the crash site which lies between Jomsom and Beni.

So far, officials have been able to identity the bodies of two children, one woman and two men. The identity of the other passengers is yet to be ascertained as their bodies are badly charred and mutilated, said DSP Bishwa Raj Khadka.

Western Regional Administrator Shankar Prasad Koirala informed Republica Online that remaining dead bodies will be brought to Kathmandu for DNA test to ascertain identification.

The search and body retrieval work was hit due to dense fog and remoteness of the crash site. The site is around seven kilometers walk from Dana VDC of Maygdi district.

A security squad led by SSP Chhabilal Pandey of Nepal Police is at the crash site.

The ill-fated Tara Air Twin Otter with call sign 9N-AHH bound to Jomsom from Pokhara with 23 persons on board had crashed at Dana VDC-2, Solighopte in Myagdi district at 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
