KANCHANPUR, Sept 25: The mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, the Nepali student held by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, left for the United States on Wednesday evening to seek international support for his release.
Bipin’s sister, Pushpa Joshi, said they are traveling to increase global pressure for his safe return. “Just as we went to Israel earlier, this time we are heading to the U.S. to raise our brother’s case internationally,” she said. “I humbly urge people in other countries to speak out for his release.”
Bipin’s mother: When will the govt safely bring my son back?
Earlier, the Israeli government had taken Bipin’s mother, Padma, and sister to Israel. This time, too, Israel has helped arrange their U.S. visit with plans to take the appeal to the United Nations.
Last Saturday, Hamas released what it called a “farewell photo” of Bipin and 48 other hostages. The family suspects the image was made public to increase pressure as Israel intensified its attacks. “Two years have passed in hope that our son will return,” said Bipin’s father, Mahananda Joshi. “If the government worked with Qatar and other countries, maybe his release would be possible. We urge stronger efforts.”
Bipin was among several Nepali students caught in a Hamas assault while in Israel under the Far Western University’s “Learn and Earn” program. Ten Nepali students were killed in that attack.
