KATHMANDU, May 5: A large number of youths could be seen arranging relief materials and performing their assigned roles at Bibeksheel Nepali's office in Jana Marga, Kathmandu. They seemed determined and eager to assist in the efforts to help the victims of the Saturday's deadly earthquake.

"Many quake victims have yet to receive relief materials," said Vishnu Chittan, 25, who came to volunteer from Hyderabad, a city in India. "We need to reach out and distribute relief materials to them promptly," he added. With tremendous support from youths of Nepal and abroad, Bibeksheel Nepali, a political party, has been working with various donors to collect and distribute relief materials to quake victims, particularly those who have not received any support so far. "The relief materials are contributed by various NGOs, INGOs, and even personally by our volunteers and members," said Laxmi Rijal, legislative member of the party. "We are receiving tremendous support and response from youths across the country and abroad," she informed.

According to her, they have been distributing relief materials such as clothes, medicines, tents, water, and foodstuffs to various districts including worst-hit Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha, Nuwakot, Rauswa and Makwanpur.

"The support we are receiving from youths is overwhelming," said Shreya Shrestha from help desk. "Over hundred new volunteers are joining our cause every day," she said they are gathering enough volunteers to carry out the operation.

According to Dibyesh Giri, central committee member of Bibeksheel Nepali, volunteers and members of the party were mobilized within the first hour of the earthquake. "We started our rescue operation from Bhaktapur and expanded it to cover other areas in need," he said. "Additionally, we've been sending teams of doctors to various quake hit areas," he added.

The most challenging part, Giri said, is to allocate relief materials based on needs of people of a particular area. "Sometimes we would be carrying foodstuffs when the victims are in need of tents. It happens despite our careful preparations as other teams would've already reached out to the same area," he said.

Nikunj Bhandari, party's coordinator of medical and sanitation at Bhaktapur, said they sometimes face difficulties in delivering relief supplies. "A group of people obstructed our bus at Bhaktapur and snatched away all the relief materials that we were carrying, including 25 boxes of water, some quantity of foodstuffs and medicine," said Bhandari.

Despite large number of relief materials received from donors, Bibeksheel Nepali has not able to meet demand from quake victims, according to Giri. "We appreciate all the support received from donors. But it still seems inadequate as the demand of essential supplies for quake victims is much more than what we have been able to deliver."
