KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The National Madhes Socialist Party (NMSP) has demanded early recruitment of Madhesi youth into national army after completing necessary procedures in line with the four-point pact between the government and Madhes-based parties, and the apex court ruling in that regard.

Issuing a press statement on Saturday after the party’s extended central committee meeting held August 30-31, the party has also said the recently formed Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA) under ruling UCPN (Maoist) is chiefly meant to prolong the coalition’s stay in power. [BREAK]

Stating that the country is currently in a dire need of political consensus, the party has said it would be wrong to equate agreement forged only among three major political parties to national consensus and has called for broader understanding among all political parties to diffuse the current crisis.

In the statement signed by party President Sharat Singh Bhandari, NMSP has further accused ruling Madhes-based parties of turning oblivious to Madhes agenda that they had taken up while joining the government and added that the Madhesi parties’ activities only seem to help the Maoists’ intent of ‘capturing state powers’.

It has also demanded formation of constitutional bodies to ensure rights of Madhesis, women, dalits, Muslims, indigenous peoples and other marginalized communities and ensure their proportional representation at all levels of state mechanism.
