KATHMANDU, Nov 26: CPN-UML youth leader Mahesh Basnet has said his party will not accept the high-level probe commission formed by the government under the leadership of Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate the Gen-Z movement.

Speaking to journalists at the Dhangadhi airport on Wednesday, Basnet claimed the commission was not impartial and made it clear that no UML leader would appear for statements called by the panel.

“That commission is not a judicial body. It is merely a weapon of retaliation led by someone who has repeatedly attacked KP Oli and UML leaders,” he said, “We do not recognize a commission formed with such prejudice.”

Objecting to reports that the commission is preparing to summon UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and other top leaders, Basnet warned the government, saying, “If the commission forcefully tries to summon our leaders, tens of thousands of our cadres will surround Singha Durbar before the leaders even reach there.”

He also accused the government of engaging in “stunts” in the name of good governance and misusing state mechanisms to target political opponents.
