Authorities urge caution for residents near riverbanks in Kathmandu Valley

According to the department, rivers such as the Bishnumati, Bagmati, and Dhobikhola have seen rising water levels, with the Bagmati River at Gaurighat and Dhobikhola at Chabahil already exceeding the alert level. The department has advised people who travel along riverbank routes or reside in riverside areas to remain vigilant.

KATHMANDU, June 23: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged residents living near rivers in the Kathmandu Valley to exercise caution, as water levels in several rivers have approached warning thresholds following heavy overnight rainfall.


According to the department, rivers such as the Bishnumati, Bagmati, and Dhobikhola have seen rising water levels, with the Bagmati River at Gaurighat and Dhobikhola at Chabahil already exceeding the alert level. The department has advised people who travel along riverbank routes or reside in riverside areas to remain vigilant.

Similarly, due to heavy rainfall in Gorkha as well, the department has issued a warning urging people to stay cautious. The downpour caused waterlogging in several parts of Kathmandu overnight, affecting roads and low-lying areas.
