Dr Bhaktadev Shrestha, who is also the head of the District Health Office (DHO) and the district hospital, has remained 'mostly' absent for the past three months. Patients who visit the hospital for over all check-up or pregnant women have to return disappointed due the negligence of the doctor.Dr Shrestha visited the hospital for only two days in December, seven days in January and 15 days in February whereas during the rest of the days he was on leave. He went to participate in seminars but wasn't at the hospital to look after the patients. Even this month, he has gone out of the district on home leave.
Due to his negligence, all the economic and regular activities of the DHO have been affected. He is not only responsible for looking after the financial activities of the health department and overall work at the office but also responsible for taking care of the patient of the district. But his absence has left the patients helpless. "Rather than decreasing the pain of patients, he is creating more pain to them," said Dil Bahadur Milan, chief of the Hospital Development Committee. He informed that he tried to ask the Health Ministry for another doctor but rather than co-operating with them, they scolded him.
The workers from the DHO have accused Dr Shrestha, who is supposed to take care of the overall health services of the district, of staying at home for a very long time.
Furthermore, there is scarcity of medicine at the DHO and other health centers and health posts. With no doctor and medicine in the district, the patients are suffering everyday.
