Aashish Maharjan's honorable defeat

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Aashish Maharjan bowed out of the 26th Summer Universiade 2011 on Saturday giving a tough challenge to his Saudi Arabian opponent in the men’s U-68 kg taekwondo bout.



Another Nepali player Ayasha Shakya posted on social networking site Facebook that Maharjan lost in sudden death after the match was tied at 4-4. [break]



“Today it was Aashish Maharjan’s match......he lost in sudden death with Saudi Arabia.....sad but happy that he played very well...:).”



Meanwhile, Shakya will compete in women’s U-53 kg category on Sunday in the Universiade which is being held in China’s Shenzhen from August 12. The Nepali players will return home after the event concludes on August 23.
