KATHMANDU, March 18: Two restaurants in Kathmandu, The Old House Restaurant in Durbar Marg and Chimney Fine Dining Restaurant in Hotel Yak & Yeti, are participating in the worldwide celebration of French gastronomy on March 21, the first day of spring.

Goût de France or Good France was started last year by French chef Alain Ducasse, who has three Michelin stars, and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development with the objective of celebrating French cuisine and involving local products and talent in the process.

Food lovers who enjoy French cuisine or want to sample French food can go to either of the restaurants on March 21. Diners can expect a five course meal in the Good France event which has been approved by the organizers itself.

Old House's menu for the festival is inspired from locally available products, said a representative from the restaurant. Last year, 40 guests had enjoyed the first Good France event. The restaurant will be serving French food made from organic local products which are not very travelled so that they are as fresh as possible.

Hotel Yak & Yeti's Chimney restaurant will be offering the Good France menu for the rest of the year. The hotel's General Manager Philippe Belhay stated that such events inspire chefs to sharpen their skills as well as be creative while designing the menu with local products. Starting from 6:30 PM, the dinner will cost each person Rs 5,000 plus taxes, and can be enjoyed with a live musical performance.

The newly appointed French ambassador to Nepal, Yves Carmona also announced that he will be hosting his first dinner at Residence de France on the same day. "We will be relying as much as possible on local products which don't have to travel all around the world and in the residence, we will be proud of serving French cheese produced in Nepal," he said.

Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management will also be participating in the event and will be providing its students to help with the dinner preparation and service.

More than 1,500 restaurants all around the world will be participating in the event.
