KATHMANDU, Nov 22: A total of 837,094 people have been registered as new voters at the Election Commission (EC) following the announcement of the March 5 House of Representatives election.
The EC published the updated figures after the extended deadline for voter registration and revision expired at Friday midnight.
21,010 new voters added in Siraha
According to EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, 344,914 new voters were registered through biometric enrollment—photo and fingerprint capture—while an additional 492,180 were added via the National Identity Card system.
The number surged after the EC enabled voter registration using National ID details, prompting a sharp rise in online applications.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, writing on social media, said that the process of compiling the voter roll had concluded, noting the inclusion of newly registered voters.
The population of Nepali people eligible to vote (above 18 years) is approximately 18, 168,023 as of November.
Earlier, voter registration had been open until November 16, but due to high demand and calls from stakeholders, the Commission extended the deadline to November 20, resulting in the latest wave of new registrations.
