KATHMANDU, April 27: In New Baneshwor, police clashed with teachers who were protesting for the implementation of the School Education Act, injuring 27 teachers and school staff. The peaceful protest, which had been ongoing for 26 days, turned tense when the police used batons and water cannons.
Ram Prasad Dhakal, the Deputy General Secretary of the Nepal Teachers' Association (NTA), said that the police's planned attack resulted in 27 injuries.

The injured are receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Everest Hospital, Trauma Center, and Tilganga Eye Hospital. The NTA has reported that some of the injured are in serious condition.

The injured include Subash Giri (Sindhupalchowk), Bhagwan Shakya (Gorkha), Deep Bahadur Gharti (Bardiya), Punya Sharma (Bardiya), Kamal Bahadur Basnet (Sindhuli), Bikash Raj Jha (Mahottari), Hari Prasad Joshi (Bajhang), Shobha Jung KC (Bajhang), Mamata Kumari Sah (Bajhang), Punyamani Joshi (Kanchanpur), Bhanu Bhakta Mainali (Baglung), Bishnu Kumari Suvedi (Nuwakot), Khadak Mani (Kailali), Dharm Singh Sarki (Khotang), Leelabhakta Basnet (Khotang), Dev Kumari Yadav (Siraha), Mahendra Sah (Dhanusha), Tej Bahadur Khatri (Jajarkot), Birendra Pandit (Rautahat), Bechan Yadav (Dhanusha), Devisharma Dhital (Jumla), Rambahadur Shahi (Jumla), Praveen Diyali (Jhapa), Krishnamaya Rijal (Jhapa), Shanta Niraula (Jhapa), Yash Gautam (Arghakhanchi), and Kusun Kumari Sah (Rautahat).
Sabina Karki, a journalist from Prime Television, also sustained injuries in the clash. She is receiving treatment at Tilganga Eye Hospital. Kathmandu Valley Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohora, confirmed the initial report indicating that 20 people were injured.
