KATHMANDU, March 10: As the election committee of Nepali Congress (NC) begins vote counting to elect 25 central working committee members under the open category, majority of candidates from Sher Bahadur Deuba panel are leading in the initial stage.

When the committee counted 150 votes before wrapping up the counting on Wednesday evening, 15 candidates from Deuba panel and 10 others from the panel led by Ram Chandra Paudel were leading in the race. Paudel was defeated by Deuba for the post of the party president.
Those securing the top 25 positions upon completion of the vote count of the total 3148 votes cast during Sunday’s general assembly will be elected as CWC members under the open category. The vote counting will resume on Thursday morning.
The party has already counted the votes for party president, general secretary and treasurer and announced the three winners. Senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has been elected as the party president, Shashank Koirala as general secretary and Sitadevi Yadav has bagged the post of treasurer.
The party will later begin vote counting for other 36 CWC members to be elected under various categories such as women, Dalit, Madhesi, Janajati and Muslim.
Afterward, the NC president will nominate 21 leaders including a vice-president, one general secretary, one joint general secretary and other CWC members to form the 85-member central working committee.
