KATHMANDU, July 30 : A total of 1,401 bodies of Nepali migrant workers who died abroad were repatriated and handed over to their families in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25, according to Nepal Police.
The age group with the highest number of deaths was 26 to 30 years, accounting for 233 repatriations. Other age groups include 172 individuals aged 21–25, 226 aged 31–35, 225 aged 36–40, and 215 aged 41–45. Additionally, 117 workers aged 46–50 and 71 aged 51–55 died during foreign employment.

Further breakdown shows 29 deaths under the age of 20, 24 in the 56–60 age group, 12 each in the 61–65 and 66–70 age groups and 6 deaths among those over 70.
The statistics highlight that Nepal’s most productive age group continues to suffer fatalities abroad. Of the total, 481 bodies were directly repatriated by the Department of Foreign Employment, while 1,086 were transported home by other means.
The DoFE also reported providing financial assistance amounting to Rs 1.02 billion to the families of 1,517 deceased workers during this period. The government currently provides Rs 1 million in compensation per deceased worker to their family.
