1,116 cattle-head perish in Koshi due to lumpy skin disease

Out of the 394,585 livestock in the province, 3154 were found to be infected with lumpy skin disease, said the directorate's veterinarian Purushottam Pandey.

BIRATNAGAR, Nov 12: The Livestock and Fisheries Development Directorate, Sunsari, Dharan, has stated that 1,116 domesticated animals have died in Koshi Province this year due to lumpy skin disease. 



Out of the 394,585 livestock in the province, 3154 were found to be infected with lumpy skin disease, said the directorate's veterinarian Purushottam Pandey. The directorate had vaccinated livestock to prevent this viral disease and was able to control the disease on time.

This disease was seen in livestock in all districts of Koshi Province this year except Solukhumbu, while no livestock died from this disease in Panchthar and Tehrathum districts, said Dr Pandey. Cattle infected with this disease suffer from diarrhea, fever, sores, weight loss, and weakness.
