11 parties oppose poll decision

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Eleven opposition parties have announced street protests against the decision of the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and United Democratic Madhesi Front to go for fresh polls.



Stating that the decision is unacceptable to them, they have also held the ruling parties responsible for the current political and constitutional deadlock. [break]



At a meeting organized at CPN-Maoist headquarters in Buddha Nagar on Friday, the parties also decided to hold a campaign to expose campaign across the country against the decision.



"We are not against holding election but the ruling parties alone cannot take such a decision," said Raj Kumar Lekhi, chairman of the Nepal Nagarik Party. He said the political parties must reach consensus before the election is announced.



Issuing a statement, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has urged one and all not to be misguided by the announcement of election by the major parties.



Leaders from Madhesi People´s Right Forum, Rastriya Janashakti Party, CPN (Maoist), Revolutionary Communist Party, Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Sanghiya Lokatantrik Rastriya Manch, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Nepal Nagarik Party and CPN (Marxist-Leninist People´s Socialist) attended the meeting.
