MORANG, March 5: A young man and woman, suspected of being in an illicit relationship, were found hanging from the same tree in Maulibari, Morang, on Monday morning.
Twenty-four-year-old Suman (name changed), a local resident, and Janaki (name changed) in her early twenties from the neighboring Jhapa district were found hanging with a nylon rope about a kilometer south of Suman’s home, according to the Morang Police.
DSP Mohan Bikram Dahal of the Area Police Office, Pathari said both were married but were not husband and wife.
The police stated that Janaki’s husband is abroad for foreign employment while Suman’s wife was at her home when the incident came to light.
Suman has two sons aged four and two while Janaki has a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Suman reportedly brought Janaki to his house on Sunday night, where she stayed after having dinner. Based on their interactions and activities, police suspect the two might have been in an illicit relationship.
Although the nature of the incident site and the initial investigation show that both committed suicide by mutual consent, the police have not reached any conclusion yet, DSP Dahal told Republica. He added that Morang Police Chief SP Narayan Prasad Chimaria is on his way to the scene to the incident site and refused to share more details stating that further investigations are underway.
