As they exited the shop, the women tried to conceal their identities by wearing burqas over masks. The shop owner, after noticing the missing jewelry, immediately initiated a search. The suspects were found a short distance away and were handed over to the police.
Preliminary investigation shows that the women were involved in similar thefts at three locations in a single day—Yogikuti in Rupandehi, Taulihawa, and Chandrauta in Kapilvastu. They reportedly used a tactic of showing cash and asking to see jewelry before stealing it.
Police have recovered Pakistani passports from the suspects, identified as Kalsum and Sahbana. Further investigation is underway on charges of theft and fraud, police said.
