KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Police have arrested three individuals on charges of defrauding people of Rs 4.91 million by falsely promising overseas employment in various countries.
Those arrested are 54-year-old Pavitra Prakash Adhikari of Shivraj Municipality–5, Kapilvastu, currently residing in Kathmandu–32; 33-year-old Babita Bishwakarma of Shadananda Municipality–12, Bhojpur; and 25-year-old Sairaj Subedi of Changunarayan Municipality–9, Bhaktapur, currently living in Gokarneshwar–5, Kathmandu, according to Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.

Police said Adhikari collected Rs 1.9 million by promising jobs in Albania, Bishwakarma took Rs 1.9 million assuring employment in Canada, and Subedi received Rs 1,114,500 claiming he would send victims to the United States. However, none of the promised employment materialized, and the accused went out of contact.
The suspects have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and necessary legal action, police said.
