Tharu clocked 10.6 seconds to claim gold in the men´s section while his club-mate Yam Sajan Sunuwar finished second with a timing of 10.8 seconds. Min Bahadur Chaudhary of Nepal Army came third clocking 10.9 seconds.[break]
In the women´s section, Nepali completed the 100m sprint in 13.0 seconds to take the gold medal. Nepal APF Club sprinter Sabita Chaudhary (13.1 seconds) and Nepal Army´s Krishna Kumari Chaudhary (13.4 seconds) finished second and third respectively.
Nepal Army athletes claimed four gold medals on the opening day of the championship. Kalyan Baniya won the men´s 5,000m race with a timing of 15 minutes 4.1 seconds. Army´s Raj Kumar Bista clocked 15 minutes 5.3 seconds to take silver, while Kiran Kumar Malla of APF claimed bronze with a timing of 15 minutes 31.4 seconds.
Army´s Bam Bahadur Gurung clinched gold in the men´s shot put with a throw of 12.13m. Army´s Dhirendra Jung Shah (11.63m) and Nepal Police´s Narendra Jung Shah (10.71m) claimed silver and bronze medals in the event respectively.
Anju Kumari added another gold medal for Nepal Army as she won the women´s shot put with a throw of 9.25m. Hiran Chadhary (8.18m) of Nepal Police and Parbati Joshi (8.14m) of Banke claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.
Nepal Army´s Prabha Chaudhary jumped 1.45m in the women´s high jump to secure a fourth gold for the departmental side. Shila Chaudhary (1.43m) of APF and Tulasi Khatri (1.34m) of Surkhet secured second and third positions respectively.
APF claimed two gold medals on Tuesday as runner Kanchhi Maya Koju won the women´s 5,000m race and athlete Bal Krishna Chaudhary won the men´s high jump.
Koju clocked 18 minutes 20.9 seconds to win the women´s 5,000m race while Bishwa Rupa Budha of Jumla finished second with a timing of 18 minutes 58.4 seconds. Geeta Khatri of APF clocked 19 minutes 48.6 seconds to claim the bronze medal.
APF´s Chaudhary leaped 1.93m to win gold in the men´s high jump. Surya Khatri of Army and Amrit Nepali of Kaski claimed silver and bronze medals in the event respectively. Khatri jumped 1.91m while Nepali leaped 1.70m.
The three-day championship will feature competitions in nine events on Wednesday.
