According to the official website of the International Judo Federation, China´s Lishuan Yang scored full ippon score against Maharjan, who was representing Nepal in the men´s U-60 kg category, in the preliminary round of the championships being held in Paris, France.[break]
Another Nepali judoka Phupu Lhamu Khatri will face Bulgaria´s Elena Grigovorova in the women´s U-57 kg category on Wednesday, an official at the Nepal Judo Association (NJA) told Republica. NJA President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya had said before leaving for France that he was not expecting any medals from Nepali players.
“This championship is to give the players an exposure so that they can perform well in the upcoming South Asian Games,” Bajracharya had said during a farewell program last week.
Full-contact karate committee elected
KATHMANDU: A 12-member executive committee of Nepal Full-contact Karate Federation was elected unopposed with Binod Bikram Singh as its president on Tuesday. Jagat Prasad Gauchan and Kajiman Shrestha are the vice-presidents while Bishnukanta Aryal is the general secretary. Rajendra Subedi and Kumar Shrestha are secretary and treasurer, respectively. Daman Basnet was nominated as vice-president. Altogether, 29 representatives of nine associations had participated in the voting.
