S Korean Choi clinches Everest golf title

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: South Korean national Choi Jo Sik came up with brilliant performance to clinch the title of Everest Golf Challenge played on Saturday at the Gokarna Golf Club. Playing with 13 handicap Choi brought the best card scoring 41 stableford points.



The South Korean scored 17 points on the front nine and 24 points on the back nine. Ang Tshiring Sherpa scored 35 to finish runner up on a count back. [break]



Lobsang Tashi took home the best gross award with 33 gross points. Aarti Rana with 41 stableford points was crowned the best lady golfer. KNS Thapa won the best senior golfer award with 34 stableford points.



Nepali team consisting of Lobsang Tashi, Kesang Lama and Tendi scored 72 stableford points to bag the team trophy award. Malaysian team of Tan Sri Aseh, Dato Ismail Ben Ahmed and Dato Yusni Bin Meon finished runner scoring 67 points. Each team comprised three players and two best scores were counted for a team´s total score.



Altogether14 teams from Nepal, Malaysia, India and United Kingdom took part in the tournament. Teams from Japan and Korea pulled out at the last moment.



Wangchen Dhondup claimed most birdies, Sean Einhaus longest drive and Suhrid Ghimire closest to the pin award.



The tournament played under stableford format with 3/4 handicap featured individual and team event competitions. Altogether 80 players took part in the tournament. Everest Bank Limited is the main sponsor of the event scheduled to be organized on an annual basis.
