Protesters stage sit-in to halt import through Birgunj entry point

BIRGUNJ, Sept 24: Protesters of Madheshi Front have staged sit-in at no man’s land in Nepal- India border since early Thursday morning to halt the entry of vehicles to Nepal through Birgunj entry point.

The agitating front took decision to that effect after the local administration continued import by declaring the area at conflict zone and clamping curfew.


“They have halted transportation since this morning,” Police Inspector Pawan Jha said, “However, the situation is still in control.”

Chairman of Nepal Sadhbhawana Party Anil Jha said the sit-in will continue till the government addressed their demands.

Raxual Customs Office has closed it work after the protest at no man’s land citing security reasons. On Nepal’s side, some 100 fuel tankers have been stranded due to sit-in.
